Acne treatment

Acne treatment is done by combining skincare products for home use along with some prescription medications. Antibiotics and retinoids are essential to treat moderate or severe acne but Acne treatments aren’t one-size-fits-all.

If prescription creams and antibiotics aren’t working for you — or if you can’t tolerate the side effects that medications can cause — you can consider acne treatments that can be provided at your doctor’s office.

Regardless of which acne treatment you use, try to keep your expectations realistic. In some instances, acne can’t be cured, only managed, and controlled and after a certain age, when hormones are more balanced, Acne cures itself. However treatment is necessary to avoid more prolonged infection and resultant Acne scars. Often, specific procedures at the dermatologist office are extremely helpful and needed to control acne and reduce the red/brown discoloration and spots that remain after acne pimples go away.

Chemical peels, blue light, and Lasers are extremely helpful for acne management. Different types of chemical peel can be used, decided by the specific need of the patient. We usually use pre-formulated peels which are safer but depending upon indication, we can use Glycolic, TCA  or Salicylic acid peels. Sometimes LED light therapy or Q switched Laser sessions( Spectra Laser) are combined with the peel. Carbon Laser peel is very popular and mostly results in immediate clearing of pimples.
