What is a Meslasma?

  • A skin disorder that results in symmetrical, blotchy, brownish facial pigmentation

Triggers for melasma

  • Pregnancyin affected women; the pigment often fades a few months after delivery
  • Hormone treatments/ oral contraceptive pills containing estrogen and/ or progesterone
  • Certain medication scented or deodorant soaps, toiletries and cosmetics
